Run For Pinoy Glory para sa Paralympians

Pinarangalan ng British Embassy sa Pilipinas ang siyam na Pinoy na sumabak sa nakaraang 2012 Paralympic Games na ginanap kasabay ng paglulunsad ng final leg ng Run For Pinoy Glory series noong Martes ng gabi sa SM Aura Premier sa Taguig City.

Ang lungsod ng London ang siyang naging host ng 2012 Olympic at Paralympic Summer Games noong nakaraang taon. Sabay na gugunitain ng British Embassy sa Pilipinas ang unang anibersaryso ng legacy na iniwan ng 2012 Games.

Sina Andy Avellana, Martires Burce, Roger Tapia at Isidro Vildosola ng athletics; powerlifters Adeline Ancheta, Achelle Guion at Agustin Kitan; Josephine Medina ng table tennis at Beariza Ma Roble ng swimming ang mga lumahok sa nakaraang Paralympic Games.

Ang huling leg ng Run for Pinoy Glory, na may temang A Gift To Our Filipino Paralympians, ay gaganapin sa Setyembre 8 sa Camp Aguinaldo grounds lungsod ng Quezon.

Ang kikitaan sa naturang patakbo, kasama ang naunang dalawang legs, ay ibibigay sa mga Paralympians at sa Philippine Sports Association for the Differently-Abled (PhilSPADA-NPC Philippines).

Isinabay din sa naturang event ang paglunsand ng isang Paralympics Legacy photo exhibit sa SM Aura upang ipakita ang pagpapahalaga ng pantay na pagtingin sa mga kapatid nating may kapansanan.

 Pinuri ni British Embassy Chargé d’ Affaires Trevor Lewis ang siyam na Pinoy na Paralympians at  sinabihan na magsilbing inspirasyon pa sa mga kabataan ngayon.

“I congratulate the nine Filipinos who represented their country in the London 2012 Paralympics. They are shining examples of courage, perseverance and the indomitable spirit – traits that every athlete, whatever their ability, must possess.  They are truly a credit to their country and we wish them well today, as we did just over a year ago when they left to compete in London,” ani Lewis.

Umaasa naman si PhilSPADA-NPC Philippines Chairman Michael Barredo na patuloy na mabigyang pansin ang lahat ng mga Paralympians sa mga susunod pang Olympics.

“We hope that the spirit of the London 2012 Games will carry on to Rio and beyond, giving equal attention to the Olympics and the Paralympics. Para athletes work as hard, or if not even more, as our able-bodied counterparts to give pride to our country, so we hope to see them enjoy the same treatment. We hope that more people will be
inspired and continue to support our efforts towards the promotion and development of sports for persons with disabilities and the Paralympic movement,” dagdag ni Barredo.

Papal visit hopes to repair relationship with Indigenous Peoples

SASKATOON — The Vatican has released the official itinerary of Pope Francis with the pontiff heading straight to Edmonton to make his first visit to Canada to meet with Indigenous Peoples, especially residential school survivors. The Holy Father will leave Rome on July 24, Thursday, at 9:00 a.m. local time and will arrive at the Edmonton International Airport for the official welcome at 11:20 a.m. the same day. Rome is eight hours ahead of Alberta, which follows mountain daylight time. The theme of the papal visit is “Walking Together” which will focus on reconciliation and healing the strained relationship between the Catholic church and Indigenous Peoples, especially the survivors of the abuses caused by attending the Canadian residential school system. A letter to Tatay

SASKATOON—My father died in February 2018, more than a month after our last vacation in the Philippines where we get to spend Christmas and New Year with our family and friends. I have no idea that would be the last time we would see Tatay alive, the last time he would see my family and spend time with two (Macky and Nathan) of his more than 10 grandchildren, and the last time I would speak to him in person and my last time to mano before heading to the airport the early morning of Jan. 9, 2018.
