Boy wonder of Philippine golf

Young golf prodigy Sean Dominique Granada's family wants him to enjoy every moment of each golf tournament to avoid pressure. Winning a crown is just an added bonus.

From his parents, Chrisaram Villacrusis Granada and Leriza Yumang Granada to grandfather and coach Vic Granada, the eight-year-old has their full backing.

"We just want him to live his dream and be proud of whatever he has achieved," said Vic a Philippine Golf Association of the Philippines member.

Sean beating 13 other bets in his division to win the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship Qualifier International last May 15 to 17 is another proud moment for their family.

The Don Bosco Technical College third grader earned a qualifying spot for the 2013 tournament to be held at the Dr. Leroy Culver and John Dunn Tucker-designed layout from July 29 to August 5 at Pinehurst No. 1 at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

Granada is aiming to join the list of five-time winners Dottie Ardina, Clare Amelia Legaspi and Marijosse Navarro.

He has come a long way after finishing second in the Class F Boys’ Division’s My Balloon Junior Golf Tournament at the Capitol Hills Golf Club in Quezon City on May 23, 2010.

In three years, Granada has collected 28 individual titles and one team championship aside from finishing no lower than third in 18 other junior golf events. He has 15 runner-up finishes and placed third twice in other tournaments.

Granada won his first individual crown, the boys’ Class F division in the TJGL 2010 Junior Golf Tournament. He even had a 13 title-winning streak in 10 months bridging the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Winning then became a habit for him as he took home 10 other division titles, in four months, including a team championship in the TJGL 2010 Ryder Cup Kids at the Philippine Navy Golf Club in September 2010.

Granada, who will be turning nine years old on August 25, won his first US Kids Golf World Qualifier as a six-year-old held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Dasmarinas, Cavite in May 2011 as a six-year-old. He once again qualified the following year.

The Interclub Championship, 2nd Annyka Chanel Junior Golf Invitation Tournament, Junior World Qualifying and the third leg of the ICTSI-JGFP School Season Series are some of his notable wins in the early part of 2013.
