No more Pacquiao-Mayweather?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. turned from a Manny Pacquiao critic to an advisor as the undefeated American had encouraging words to the fallen eight-division world champion after suffering a stunning sixth-round knockout loss against Mexican dynamo Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday.

Pacquiao dropped to the canvass face first after receiving Marquez’s brutal right in the two-minute and 59-second mark of the sixth round, to finally conquer his chief rival. Pacquiao’s crushing defeat could further delay a potential 2013 meeting with Mayweather after the latter’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, announced that his ward will fight twice next year.

Mayweather, however, is not at all concerned about the mega-fight, and instead felt sorry for Pacquiao in his fourth encounter with Marquez.

"I feel bad for him [Pacquiao] honestly…There’s a difference in how you get knocked out,” said Mayweather at FightyHype.com. “Things happen. You live and you learn. The only thing he (Pacquiao) can do is rejuvenate himself and bounce back like a true champion.”

Mayweather, along with his father Floyd Sr. and uncle-trainer Roger, accused Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) while climbing up in weight and demolishing bigger foes like Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto.

The reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion added that the way Pacquiao got knocked out is dangerous to a fighter.

Boxing analysts are saying that with Pacquiao’s devastating knockout loss, the possible mega-buck bout between the Filipino ring icon and Mayweather may no longer push through.

Mayweather, according to his manager Leonard Eberle, will be fighting twice in 2013 while Pacquiao eyes an April or May ring return.

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, however, wants his ward to fight by September in order not to endanger his health further.

“A possible rematch (with Marquez) or retirement but I’m not sure which way where we are going. Depends on how he (Pacquiao) feels and what he wants to do. If he decides to fight and go back to the gym if I see good signs we go on and continue. If I see bad signs, we won’t.
